Shadowbriar Elementary Parent & Educator Workshops - Fall 2022

Through our innovative school-based initiative, The Parent Teacher Collaborative created a platform for bridge-building between Shadowbriar Elementary parents and teachers, focusing on effective parent and family engagement strategies aimed to strengthen the connection between home and school, promoting the importance of family involvement in education.

Over the course of twelve weeks, TPTC staff facilitated a series of interactive workshops aimed at bringing teachers and parents together to share hard-won lessons and best practices for bolstering student support - both at home and at school. These workshops provided a space for collaboration and knowledge-sharing, emphasizing the difference between engagement vs involvement and highlighting the crucial role of parent engagement in schools. Sessions included:

Tools and strategies to build relationship and effectively communicate with your child’s teacher
Strategies for approaching and engaging with school leadership
Strategies for partnering with your child’s teacher to support classroom learning goals
Strategies for supporting your child’s learning at home
Special populations information session

Acres Home Educational Engagement Training- Fall 2022

In the Fall of 2022, The Parent Teacher Collaborative sparked a grassroots movement in Houston’s Acres Home community. The TPTC Educational Engagement Training Program united parents, families, educators and concerned neighbors for an intensive virtual workshop series focused on building hands-on engagement skills. Third Ward Family Empowerment Nights & PTO Leaders Fellowship (2023 - Present)

TPTC hosts monthly Family Empowerment Nights at Cuney Homes in Third Ward. These interactive events are designed to equip families with resources, strategies, and community support to strengthen educational outcomes and overall well-being. These evenings foster meaningful connections between parents, educators, and local organizations, empowering families to take an active role in their children’s success.

The PTO Leaders Fellowship at Blackshear Elementary is a year-long program for Parent Teacher Organization officers focused on strengthening leadership capacity and driving meaningful family and community engagement. Fellows receive personalized coaching to grow their PTO, participate in interactive workshops, and earn a monthly stipend as they lead initiatives that support the school community.

Richard Milburn Academy - Houston Parent Organization & Future Ready Experiences Program (2024 - Present)

TPTC is partnering with Richard Milburn Academy-Houston to launch the school’s first-ever parent organization, fostering stronger family-school connections and empowering parents to play an active role in their children’s education. TPTC provides leadership development and coaching to help parent leaders establish and grow the organization successfully.

TPTC is also working with school leaders to implement the Future Ready Experience Program, which equips students with essential skills, resources, and exposure to career and college opportunities. Together, these initiatives are creating a foundation for sustained family engagement and future student success at RMA-Houston.

Forest Brook Middle School Parent Teacher Organization Development (2024 - Present)

TPTC is actively supporting Forest Brook Middle School’s PTO by providing strategic guidance and resources to strengthen its impact. TPTC is helping the PTO organize effective membership drives to increase parent and teacher participation while fostering a culture of collaboration. Additionally, TPTC is working to improve communication between parents and teachers, ensuring everyone is aligned on goals that benefit students. By assisting with the planning and execution of school events, as well as developing systems for sustaining and growing the organization, TPTC is equipping the PTO with the tools and strategies needed for long-term success.

Citywide Coalition on Education (2023 - Present)

TPTC is consulting with the Citywide Coalition on Education to plan and implement impactful workshops focused on critical topics such as school board accountability, educational engagement, and early childhood education. Through these workshops, TPTC empowers families and community members with the knowledge and tools needed to actively engage in shaping education policy and practices.

TPTC collaborates with organizational leaders from The Education Trust-Texas, Good Reason Houston, and Latinos for Education, leveraging their expertise and perspectives to inform and enhance these initiatives. Together, these partnerships aim to create meaningful change and positively influence the educational landscape in Houston
